How I came to know about Friendship@SG
Hi, I am Calista, an international nursing student from Indonesia currently studying in Singapore. Moving here was exciting, but honestly, it was also quite overwhelming at first—new environment, new people, and everything felt fast-paced.
I first got to know Friendships@SG through a recommendation from my Burmese classmate. She mentioned that there was a welcome pack available for nursing students at my campus. Hearing that there was a free gift, I thought, "Why not give it a try?"
However, since I didn't sign up for the form, I technically couldn't receive the free gift. Still, the admin kindly added me to the group chat community. Since then, I've been in contact with many international students from different nationalities who are studying the same course as me.
At that time, studying alone was quite tough, and handling everything by myself wasn't easy. However, I am also someone who enjoys joining events and hanging out as a way to de-stress. It turned out that getting to know Friendships@SG was one of the best opportunities I've encountered.
From the very first session, I felt welcomed. The people were warm, genuine, and really intentional in getting to know each of us. It didn't feel forced or awkward—it just felt natural.
Through the activities, I've met so many new friends from different backgrounds. Some of them have even become really close to me, like a support system away from home. Whether it's studying together, having meals, or just talking about life, these friendships have made a huge difference in my journey here.
Over time, Singapore started to feel less like a foreign place and more like a second home. Being part of this community gave me a sense of belonging that I didn't expect to find so quickly.
If you're new here and feeling unsure, I'd really encourage you to step out and join—sometimes, all it takes is one community to turn a new place into home.
